Let’s find 7 basic rules:
1. Book in advance
If you know the departure date long enough book your flight as soon as possible. You can save more than you would expect.
2. Travel in groups
Traveling in groups carry’s a lot of reward. You will get a special group discount and you do not have to travel alone. Even though you can save with group bookings
3. Travel on less loaded days
If your fly date/day is not definite, choose from Tuesday and Thursday flights. These two days are the least loaded and that's why airlines reduce prices of flights.
4. Avoid busiest airports
There is a great advantage flying into smaller or secondary airports. Such secondary airports have lower landing fees than busier airports. Furthermore, if you travel at night you can make the landing fees even lower.
5. Book return tickets
One way tickets are typically more costly than booking of return tickets. This is caused by the certainty of airlines that the seats of their flights will be filled.
6. Look for airfare deals and check special websites
There are many websites (e.g. http://www.flightnetwork.com) considering and comparing the best fares for certain routes. To have all deals and special discount emailed to you, subscribe their email newsletter.
7. Join frequent flyer programs
Many airlines have their special loyalty program which tenders a lot of discounts and benefits to frequent flyers. Generally, travelers pick points for miles they flew with airline and then acquire its reward either in form of some advantage or in form of discount for next flights.
